Aaron Earley
I Attended my first yoga class in 2006, very cliché, but whilst laying in the resting pose at the end of the class, I had a realisation that this ‘yoga’ was a profound practice. I sensed that not only was it going to supply me with my physical needs, but I felt something deeper, something that I had never experienced with years of physical training, sports and competitions. A feeling of deep contentment and calmness came over me. My mind felt like it was quite for the first time, free from the constant chatter, like I had just experienced a part of myself that was somehow familiar, yet usually distant. I could sense that there was something greater, and that I could possibly access a deeper understanding with this strange practice of moving, holding postures, breathing, and chanting that I had just experienced.
After several months of attending these classes at the local gym, where I was working as a Personal Trainer, I sought out different lineages and traditions of yoga. I thought if I was going to do this properly I wanted to immerse myself in a well-trodden path and find a teacher that could guide me on this journey. Not long after I found my teacher, Mark Togni, from the Gold Coast Yoga Centre. Mark has not only taught me the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga method, but he continues to offer his students and myself, ancient wisdom, personal support, inspiration and unconditional love. I am still practicing with Mark on a regular basis and he is currently guiding me through the advanced series of Ashtanga Yoga.
In 2009 I started travelling to India to immerse myself in Indian culture, yogic traditions and practices, specifically, the Ashtanga yoga method. In 2011 I undertook a live-in ‘ashram’ style Hatha Yoga teacher training course in Rishikesh, India. Soon after I began teaching yoga full time at local Brisbane yoga studios.
In 2013, under the guidance of my other main teacher Sharath Jois, I began my studies at the source of Ashtanga Yoga (KPJAYI ) in Mysore, India . I studied there for 5 consecutive years, spending 2-3 months each year totally immersing myself in the practice.
In 2017 I was honored to receive authorisation from Sharath to continue the lineage and share the teachings with my community.
In 2017 I started Brisbane Ashtanga Yoga, (now Yoga with Aaron Earley). A space dedicated to the Ashtanga Yoga teachings. This includes Mysore-style, led classes, and Ashtanga-inspired general classes.
In addition to my Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga practice, I personally, have a dedicated daily pranayama and meditation practice.
Beyond yoga I am blessed to have 2 beautiful children and a loving wife.
